Seeing something in different way : I saw itb through her eyes.

Last time I share my photography experience to a friend of mine named Dixie. She had to follow a photography contest held by her faculty. Well, I wasn’t sharing all technically things coz basically she only had one-day-learn. Thus, before I explained everything about photography, we started hunting all around the campus. I just wanted to see the way she saw this place before she was able to know the theory. Besides that, it would be easier for me to explain thing that she already knew, whether she knew a little or more. Also this experience could be used to explain how to explore the angle. After walking around at ITB, then I start to see her picture and give advice. I only gave her the essential theory and some tips afterwards, and then we started hunting again. But anyway, since I am more capable in still-life, I thought it influence her a lot in her first lesson :( She started too hunt everything still. Sorryy…I don’t meant to drop still life on her face…huhuhu.. But anyway, nice to have pupil :)

I was keeping her that she always had to concern with composition and cropping. My tips, for this early lesson, DO NOT ERASE ANY PIC that you’ve taken. Deleting picture might be an easy thing, but with by not erasing the photo, you would see the progress of yourself, how many photo that you’ve captured till you get the best, and it will be useful for further cropping. I believe there are picture that great (it is good from the first time you captured) and pictures, which are potentially great (maybe by further cropping or color editing). So, I told it to her. Besides that, there are 2 things about photographing object: the object is basically interesting so no matter how you take the object it seems to always good and the object which need to have extra treatment by evaluating the composition and the lighting. So, here are the results… (All photographs belong to Dixie courtesy using my Keeno Nikon D40)

Well, this isnt a tutorial...

1. FRAMING/CROPPING

Center..but not interesting enough..

The STOP is the accent while the brook lead our eyes onto the stop sign.

2. CROPPING + COMPOSITION

Center is boring.

Crop the circle but not until half part.

3. ANGLE + COLOR

The corner is good enough. Yet, It isn't interesting enough...

Black and WHite always helps such situation...

4. CROPPING +COMPOSITION + COLOR

Redundant point of interest. Focus please...

The beautiful west GKU framed between 2 trees. The repetition also become the point of interest.

5. COMPOSITION

This picture is taken while crossing the ITB road. A simple eye level : nothing interesting.

Flip your camera and place object using rule-of-third and take the benefit of perspective : voila!
